(Whidbey Island, WA) – The search for the best slice of pie in America is over. At least, according to some.
Roughly an hour north of Seattle, plus a short ferry ride, you’ll find Whidbey Island. Venture to the town of Langley, population 1,148. The coastal Pacific Northwest community is home to the Langley Whale Center. If your timing is correct, you can spot gray whales, orcas, humpbacks and a variety of other sea-life. But, we’re here to talk about pie…
Amongst some impressive food and drink options (for a town of just over 1,000) is Whidbey Pies. A small shop where locals and tourists alike eagerly wait to select tart cherry, strawberry rhubarb, granny apple or their fan-favorite, marionberry. Pies are sold by the slice, but you’re going to want an entire pie… even if you’re solo.
Very few pie experiences leave you raving about the crust. But, you will here.
The juxtaposition is noticeable right away between traditional hand-made pies made from scratch since 1986, and the hip employees adorned with “crimpin’ ain’t easy” t-shirts.
Almost as if it was planned perfectly, the aroma of fresh brewed coffee wafts into Whidbey Pies from the adjoined, Salty Sea Coffee building next door.

The combination of Pacific Northwest cool sea air, a fresh cup of coffee and the most perfect piece of marionberry pie you’ll ever have is a complete life win.
